Nutrition in Diabetes care

Diabetes is one the leading disorders occurring in the world. It is targeting individuals of all age groups & spreading in each generation. It can be classified into many types namely: Type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, Juvenile diabetes, gestational diabetes, etc. It majorly occurs in individuals due to genetics & bad lifestyle along with obesity, and other syndromes.

It is very important to closely monitor the food intake of the Diabetic patients as it directly affects their insulin levels, so while we understand it, let’s also understand Glycemic index as one of the most important factors is to balance nutrition for Diabetes care.

Glycemic index (GI) is a measure of how quickly a food can make your blood sugar (glucose) rise. Only foods that contain carbohydrates have a GI. Foods such as oils, fats, and meats do not have a GI.

Foods are rated low, medium, or high on the glycemic index, depending on how quickly they raise your blood sugar level, compared to either glucose or white bread (these foods have a glycemic index rating of 100)

The glycemic index (GI) is one nutritional tool you can use to help rate the quality of carbohydrates that you eat. By choosing low glycemic index foods, you can minimize dramatic increases in your blood sugar.

Additionally, if you eat a high glycemic index food, you can expect that it’ll increase your blood sugar more significantly. It may also cause a higher post-meal blood sugar reading.

Important:

Low GI foods have a GI of 55 or less.

Medium GI foods are between 56 and 69.

High GI foods are 70 or higher.

Eating according to the GI can help you better manage your post-meal blood sugar levels. The GI can also help you determine appropriate combinations of food.

Unlike table sugar or HFCS (high-fructose corn syrup), fructose causes a low rise in blood sugar levels, which means it has a low glycemic index (GI) that is 19. Therefore, health professionals recommend fructose as a “safe” sweetener for people with type 2 diabetes.

Diabetics have many restrictions when it comes to food, and their major goal involves eating every 2-3 hours, thus protein powder for Diabetes and snacking on the right food is very important.

While in India we don’t really have the best snacking options, we have come up with a protein supplement for Diabetes which is apt for a Meal between Meal, that is a best snacking option namely, Pentasure DM.

Pentasure DM is a 100% whey protein concentrate giving 22g of protein per 100 grams. It has an Insulinotropic effect, due to Highest Leucine content.

It is rich in fiber which is 6g per 100 grams. It is very low in GI & contains ALA & DHA for improved insulin sensitivity.

Pentasure DM is also enriched with Taurine, carnitine, Inositol & 28 essential vitamins & minerals.
